Prof. Dr. Habib Ahmad has been awarded Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan on the occasion of 14 August, 2010. His recommendation was made by the President of Pakistan on reward of his contribution in the field of research in Plant Geneticist of Pakistan, who has strengthened Hazara University, Mansehra. He is the first professor of this university who got Tamgha-e-Imtiaz. He is the founder of Botany & Genetics departments in Hazara University. He has 94 international and national research publications to his credit along with five published books. He has supervised numerous PhD, MPhil and MSc students. He was granted the Best Research Award of Hazara University and has been acknowledged as Best Teacher through HEC by UNESCO (2007). Recently he has developed a high yielding Rapeseed variety “Husnain 2004” for enhancing edible oil production in Pakistan. As a researcher he stayed in NARC for five years where he established Cytogenetics Laboratory, that later developed into a Cytogenetics Programme. He served WWF as a Technical Coordinator, for four years, where he was able to introduce a new academic and research discipline Ethnobotany, in the country and produced ten PhD and 27 MPhil in it. He has served the Higher Education Department NWFP for 14 years. He joined Hazara University in March 2005. He has the credit of establishing the Departments of Botany and Genetics in a single room, which has been developed into full-fledged departments approved by HEC for PhD and M. Phil level research. His visionary approach as academician is evident from the fact that he has been serving on thirty-two different committees related to the academics, research and development of Hazara University. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Syed Sakhawat Shah congratulated Prof. Dr. Habib Ahmad on his wonderful achievement, which he contributed in the field of science & technology. The Vice Chancellor also said that this is a great honour for this nascent university as well as for our faculty. We appreciate the efforts of Dr. Habib Ahmad who is supervising research activities. The Vice Chancellor also said that we encourage the young scholars to do the research work in their respective field as the research and technological advancement is the dire need of the country. For this purpose, Hazara University declare year 2010 as Year of Research to motivate the young researchers.
