ABBOTT Museum of Archaeology & Ethnology Abbottabad

Abbott Museum of Archeology & Ethnology, Abbottabad 
The Abbott Museum was completed and established by the efforts of worthy Vice Chancellor Hazara University Mansehra, Prof. Dr. Ihsan Ali in a short span of time and was then inaugurated by the Federal Minister, Nisar Muhammad Khan on February 22, 2008.
Museum displays the following:
  • Archaeological profile of NWFP in general while district Abbottabad and Haripur in particular due to the recent archaeological investigations done by the staff of the Museum. We have documented 304 sites in Abbottabad which proved that the history of the areas goes back to 6th century BC while in Haripur, 292 sites were recorded and the history goes beyond the Buddhist period.
  • The Second aspect representing the ethnology of the area, that how they live now and what they are using inside their houses, their traditions, their dresses etc.
  • Representing Buddha life story in water colour painting, which is in process.
  • The fourth aspect of the Museum is to highlight those political personalities who contributed to the establishment of Abbottabad town and we represented them in a unique artwork “Burning Art”.
  • While the fifth aspect of the Museum is to highlight the Gandhara Grave Culture. For this purpose, we display the Gandhara Grave Culture Gankirini-o-Take Excavations 2008 (Chitral) material.
  • To highlight the British Colonial Buildings, we have displayed photographs of these buildings for that purpose.
    During the archaeological survey, the surface collections from different sites belonging to Buddhists, Hindushahi and Islamic period have been displayed in the Museum.

International conference on CONTEMPORARY ARTS AND ART HISTORY

28th - 30th September 2010

Introduction
Hazara University’s Garden Campus has the unique feature of being an idealistic campus, both in terms of natural beauty and upcoming infrastructure. The landscape inside and outside is awesome and inspiring, a natural ingredient to nourish the mind and to conduct research work. The flora and fauna add to the creative ability and provocation of the human mind. Hence the conducive circumstances created a need to open up Department of Art & Design at the Hazara University.
The courses offered in the department are interdisciplinary and a combination of theory, studio work, demonstration, and fieldwork. Workshops by experts and regular visits to the exhibitions, museum and art galleries shall be part of the program. Report writing, presentations and research on local crafts are part of the course. Visiting faculty will be made available to widen the students’ perspective at all levels.
      Theme of the conference
The conference will be divided into the following three main areas. The papers will also be accepted in the related fields.
Theme 1:- Contemporary Art Scenario
The contemporary art trends will be discussed. Papers from renowned Art practioners will also be accepted apart from art academics and researcher.
Theme 2:- Art Administration & Economics of Art & Design In this field the modern trends of local development and the role of Art & Design and cultural heritage institutes will be addressed. The new field of Cultural economics is also introduced for the first time in Pakistan for research.
Theme 3:- Art History Of the Twentieth century South Asia In this area Art History and its development aspects will be discussed, comparatively analysis will be made of the different art historic movements. The emphasis will be on Art History of Post Independence Pakistan. Gender in Art will be also discussed. Feminism in Art History will be included in this Area.
Theme 4:- Intangible cultural Heritage
The Last date for submission of abstracts is 15th July 2010. It is also required that participant should send their full paper in soft format till 15th August 2010 as to make it convenient to publish at the conference event. All the papers will be part of the new research Journal of the department.

What makes Hazara University unique?


What makes Hazara University unique? Its Hazara University!

Pakistan has been one of those countries, which are very limited in research and the development activities. The mode of education is set to some very conventional systems, like the schooling system and then the higher education later on.

What if its said that Hazara University is established like other many universities in the recent years? Answer is absolutely the results this particular university has shown in just 8 years.
The enrollment of students has jumped from 450 to more then 6000 students. The faculty comprises mostly of the post graduates from the best universities of the world, while on the other hand the university has got more then 23 different departments offering at least 65 degrees, including bachelor, masters, & Ph. D.
On the other hand the population of the university has hiked up to more then 15000 people.
The university has three campuses, which makes her the unique in region.
The university is located, where the area homes Jabba Research station, the only research station for the sheep & goats in Northern South Asian region. The tea research programs are the only provision of research for tea in region, more over the archeological importance of area is reknown.
