A delegation of DMG officers from Civil Service Academy Lahore visited Hazara University Mansehra on their study tour of the area

A delegation of DMG officers from Civil Service Academy Lahore visited Hazara University Mansehra on their study tour of the area. The group of officers was warmly received in the conference room where Prof. Dr. Syed Sakhawat Shah in his welcome address extended his greetings to visitors on the University campus. He introduced the Deans of the faculty and Registrar. Later on the delegation turn by turn got them introduced. Thereafter Mr. Muhammad Iqbal Deputy Director R & P in a multimedia presentation traced the brief history of this newly established university. He explained about the natural disaster, which struck the main campus destroying the entire infrastructure during the earthquake of 2005. With the determination and courage of management, faculty and students the university was able to restore its normal functions within a few months. The number teaching departments now have become 32 with 65 affiliated colleges spread across
the Hazara region. Various construction projects have been completed. The university has attracted more than 75. The university is located in a rich biodiversity and strategically important area under the foot of Himalaya, Karakrum and Hindu Kush mountain ranges. This heartland of Pakistan to the North has a valuable cultural heritage, which has been a great hunting spot for Archaeologists, Anthropologists and tourists from all over the world. The delegation showed keen interest in the steadily progressing campus in such a rural background. To a question the delegation was informed that there is no gender distinction or linguistic, racial and ethnic prejudices on the campus and the admissions were open on the merit basis to all the citizens of Pakistan. Hazara University and its two campuses at Havelian and Haripur cater to the needs of the students’ right from Hassanabdal to Chillas covering 400 kilometers all along the route extending to the North
of Pakistan touching Gilgit. The University enjoys a national ranking among the 97 universities of the country at number 16 while in the Province it occupies number 02 position among the public sector universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The delegation then went around the campus and visited the campus radio station, media center and Pheasantry.

Ambassador Republic of Turkey visits Hazara University

I have been keeping myself updated with the development of Hazara University for the last one-year. We have our commitment with the development of higher education in Pakistan, particularly in the quake hit zone of Hazara, where Turkish NGO has been busy in constructing 10 academic blocks.
These views were expressed by his Excellency M. Babur Hizlan, Ambassador of Republic of Turkey during his visit to Hazara University, Mansehra. The ambassador also inaugurated newly constructed girls hostel, which was constructed by the financial assistance of Higher Education Commission. Mr. Azam Khan Swati, Federal Minister for Science & Technology was also present at the occasion. Turkish government is trying its best to complete the unfinished construction work on these blocks at Hazara University. The historic ties between Pakistan and Turkey spread over many centuries and he was delighted to see the Guli  Bagh, Mansehra where historic monuments and empty courts of Turkish era reminded of those strong links of history, which were time-tested and survived the hazards of history. In his speech Federal Minister for Science & Technology, Mr. Azam Khan Swati expressed his keen interest in the development of Hazara University. He was all the more interested in this university because its future is directly related to the new generation of Hazara. These young talented youth of Hazara and other parts of the country will be benefited from the academic and research programs. He has been very encouraged that the university was making rapid progress under the dynamic leadership of Prof. Dr. Syed Sakhawat Shah. He assured that he would mobilize all his resources for the welfare and promotion of students, faculty and construction projects of Hazara University. Later on, the delegation also visited various departments, which includes museum and art gallery, Pheasantry and incomplete construction project of Hazara University. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Syed Sakhawat Shah thanked the visiting delegation and their support for restarting the work on 10 academic block with the help of Turkish Government or Turkish NGO which has been suspended from August 2008. He also stressed that we are in dire need of infrastructure as we have plan to start six new departments from the ensuring semester. Now the total number of educational departments has risen to 34.
